Shake It Up
Since I’ve been at this whole charade for a few months now, I think it’s time to assess a few things.
For one, I need to break out of the “meet for drinks” mold. Sure it’s nice to let your hair down and have a beer, but I’m bored with it. The thought of walking into one more bar to shake one more hand and have one more beer makes me yawn. (I really did just yawn). It's just the same thing over and over and has really started feeling like Groundhog's Date.
So, I need some date ideas. What’s the best first date you’ve ever been on? Or maybe the worst?

Weirdest: Blind date (mutual friends) said he'd pick me up after work. He showed up driving his Yellow Cab taxi, with two customers in back. He was cute, so I squeezed into the back seat. Made for an awkward half-hour trip to the airport, but it was actually kind of fun. He even let me drive the cab for one fare.
Best: I like any date where you have to talk to each other, like a coffee shop, or, in summer time, sidewalk cafe/lunch. (Plus lunch is less of a commitment than dinner if he's a dud).
I don't really have best and worst but best and then some ideas.
I went on a great date that started in a coffee shop then we took a long walk and ended up having hot chocolate in another coffee shop across town.
Hmmmm the most of my good date ideas are specific to Chicago (where I live)… but some suggestions are a drive-in movie, concert in the park, sporting event, a walk through an arboretum, museums can be a lot of fun.
Most big cities have movies in the park during the week. Kind of a romantic twist on the standard movie theatre- plus you can talk a little more!
I have to think way back to the dating days, but the ones that I remember were going bowling, playing pool or miniature golf. This way we could talk (hard to do at the movies) but there was an activity involved so if there were awkward silence times it wasn't so bad. My first date with my hubby (we met on-line 10 years ago) was at our local park/lake to watch the speed boat races. Ended up taking a walk, going and getting sandwiches for a picnic, still hanging out until the park closed at dusk and ended up picking up a pizza and a movie and going back to my apartment until we both started dozing on the couch (we had been up until 4:00 a.m. the night before talking to each other on the phone and had only gotten a few hours of sleep before our date started). BEST date ever! Did I mention that he's my husband? = )
