It's Bean Fun, Aye?

Since my date with Tim Hortons, we've exchanged a few texts. But I realized I wasn't that excited about seeing this guy again. You know you're not interested when you read their message, toss your phone on the bed, go for a run, eat dinner, twiddle your thumbs for awhile, and then remember you never responded.

Don't get me wrong, we had a fun time on our sushi outing. He's a really sweet guy. But I wasn't attracted to him. He was 6'3" and probably 120 pounds. And kind of reminded me of a stick bug.

Of course a few days after I didn't reply to a text, I'm walking down a pretty empty street at 2 p.m. on a Sunday and see him a few yards away walking toward me. And we're the only two on the sidewalk. Of course my mind races to think of something else I can look at until we're a little closer and I can say hello, but nothing comes to mind. I look inside the Subway, then up in the sky (what?!), and then start looking through my purse like I've dropped the cure for cancer in there.

When we finally got in front of each other, I feel my face get hot and know I'm probably a lovely shade of maroon and basically barf out a greeting. We had the typical "Hi, how are you? Good you? Ok see you later but really I'll never see you again!" convo and then I went on my merry way.

And I knew my instincts had been correct. Tim Hortons was just not my cup of coffee.

Aboot Last Night

So I met Tim Hortons for sushi, and guess what we talked about? TIM HORTON'S!!! And the whole time I was thinking about how awesome it was going to be to come tell all of you about that because he clearly wouldn't appreciate the irony as much as my blog pals would.

Anyhoo, the young Canadian was very tall, had semi-wavy hair (not like Michael Bolton), and very cute style. He wore this button-down with a faded gray blazer that made my heart flutter. And he had great shoes, which always wins points. Do you know how many guys have terrible shoes?! You don't even have to Google this one, just look at the man sitting next to you. Nine out of ten times he'll have hopeless shoes. But this isn't a fashion blog.

So he won in presentation, and he was really funny. Sitting down to dinner was a little awkward because we were both nervous, and I kept talking with my hands and looking everywhere but at him. So my head's rolling around and I'm jabbering on, and he was probably checking for signs that I was having a seizure. Finally I calmed down and we had a great convo and some delicious sushi.

At one point I even said I was unsure about trying a roll that had tiny black fish eggs on top, so he took the piece of salmon that they were sitting on and put it on top of them and winked. Awwww.

After dinner we went for a beer at this bar down the street from the restaurant, and just chatted about this and that. But, the piece de resistance was the good bye. He flagged me a cab, and we're standing outside this cab on the driver's side, and the driver's got his window down so now it's a threesome, and Tim Hortons basically blew a fuse in his brain and pushed me toward the cab and said, "I'll call you," and awkwardly walked away.

We chatted briefly yesterday and I agreed to hang out next week.

In the meantime, I got an email from a cute guy who just graduated med school (seriously, did my mother break into my dating account and install a doctors-only filter?) and plays soccer recreationally. Don't even get me started on soccer players. Love. Them.

Best of Luck

Saturday I was going to have drinks and play shuffleboard with Dr. Zhicago. As I'm turning the corner to meet him, I'm talking to him on the phone and see him staring in the opposite direction, at a hot brunette in a tank top and mini skirt, and he goes, "Oh yeah, I see you coming." Wrong. I had to inform him that I was the one behind him in jeans. He laughed and apologized but I'm sure he was mildly disappointed that I wasn't dressed like a Jerry Springer guest.

So first impression was he was very cute, had beautiful light green eyes, and was totally oblivious to how pale his legs were in his khaki cargo shorts. Not that I'm attracted to men who recreationally tan, but these were blindingly white.

Anyway, we got to the bar and had a beer and got to know each other a bit. Then we decided to play a game of shuffleboard, and he orders us Long Islands. I thought those were reserved for chain-smoking soccer moms with big hair and acrylic nails, but I went with it. And then I went and kicked his butt in shuffleboard. At first we were tied, but after he told me he'd been "letting me win" I decided it was time to shut him up. And watching him squirm over losing was the best part of the day.

After losing twice, he suggested we sit down and chat a little more. It was at this point he thought it was appropriate to ask me what I thought of him. Alright. I told him the PC version, "you're really nice and smart and polite and if you order me another Long Island I'm going to start calling you Lolita." He then told me how he'd been dating around and met some 28-year-old from his church but now they were just friends. He also said he knew his accent was charming, which immediately made it un-charming.

With that, we decided it was time to go home. We get out of the cab in front of a park that's in between our homes, and he suggested we walk a bit. It was then I realized he was panicking over how to say good bye. So Mr. Smooth says, "Let's watch these kids" and stops in front of the childrens' play area. He asked if I liked kids, and I sarcastically said no, but he thought I was totally serious. So he's staring at the children and I'm looking anywhere but at the kids, because as much as I love them, it's totally creepy to watch little Billy swing for 5 minutes.

Finally I said thank you for the date and he decided to give me a performance review and tell me how nice and fun I am. Then, he stretches his arms out to hug me, and says, "I really like you.....best of luck." I don't know if he said anything else because I blacked out from the awkwardness. I said thanks and walked away completely unsure if he was blowing me off or if his brain short-circuited. Or maybe he just wanted to get back to staring at strangers' children.

Tuesday I'm getting sushi and drinks with the Canadian med student, so hopefully Tim Hortons is more normal than Dr. Z.
